Participants: 25 undergrads & Dr.Chandima Dedduwa Pathirana ,Senior Lecturer from the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Moratuwa participated.
With the interest of the world moves towards renewable energy, IET
Younger Member’s Section Moratuwa Chapter organized a field visit to increase
the awareness of the renewable energy .The Solar Power plant which has been
built and successfully maintained by Nikini was selected as they have already
put it under operation. At Nikini we were told that it had been used as a pilot
plan before they go for large scale development of a Solar Power Plant.
We were warmly
welcomed by Mr.Gayan Namantha who was also a graduate from University of
Moratuwa and he explained how they have implemented and operate the power plant
& the factors that has to be considered when going for solar power.
At
Nikini they had implemented rain water harvesting which was operated parallel
with the power plant. We were explained the rules and regulations related to
Solar Power generation, distribution and when connecting to the main grid of
CEB.
During the second part of the program a Presentation
on powering rural villages using solar powerwas shown. Participants were very enthusiastic about the presentation and
it had really good respond.
At the end
of the presentation chapter member R.M.T.O.Rajapaksha (me) gave the vote of thanks. . A token of appreciation was handed over to the facilitator in appreciation
of his contribution in
educating young engineering minds, by Dr.C.D. Pathirana. Personals
at Nikini thanked the
organizers and IET for organizing such an event on a current topic.
