Place : Seneha Children's Orphanage ,Bambalapitiya

being with the Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa, changed my life a lot.Being part of the many projects done in various sections such as Community Service, Club Service, Internation Understanding and Professional Development. I could say the experience I gathered by being there was immense during my stay at the university. Not only in my academic work but also in my other works I used many experienced that I gained from Rotaract Mora.

Gift a Smile is a project where we use the money collected from the people who have there b'days in that months and use the money to go to a children home and spend the day with them. It is when you actually see how much we are lucky to have a family of our own. I had this  idea of being some kind of help for at least few children to grow up in their life, the idea had been forgotten by me due to various aims I gained since I came to the university, but this particular project reminded my actual purpose of life. I believe that everybody in the world is there for a purpose, Living means you try to realize what it is.

So I urge from you use the money you waste to make some one else's life  happy. The happiness and the calmness you gain by doing so will always be there with you.

  

Exmo 2010

ExMO 2010 - Engineering and Technology exhibition organized by Faculty of Engineering, University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. From each departments they exhibits department projects and many other sessions. For the department of Electrical Engineering there were stalls under the categories of Domestic Electrical Systems, Electrical Machines(Where I was on duty  for the exibition ), Lighting phenomena, Power Generation-Transmission- Distribution and many more. Ceylon Electricity board also had stalls.

During the days if the exibition many of my collegues and me we explained the public as well as people from industry the basics of Electrical Machines and how they are applied in domestically and industrially.
There were some uncomfortable occasions where I tried to explain some basic stuff to Engineers (in disguise).What can I do, I learned one thing and that is to be confident of what yo say, and if you don't know, be frank say it to the face that you don't know.

  

IET Recruitment 2010

Recruitment program for the batch 080 held under the supervision of Mr.Shami Mudunkotuwa. This was the first an unforgetable experience where our first IET YP 080 batch  crew came together. Had a lot of fun.Event was graced by prof.I.J.Dayawansa  and prof.J.R.Lucas. The participants were given a brief introduction  about  IET by me.

IET is one of the   largest Engineering body in the world, which is a non profit organisation promoting Engineering. Engineers, Technician  relating to all most all the field of Engineering are part of this.

Department Awurudu Food Table 2010 - Organised by the EESOC

Its the custom of the department to celebrate national festivals in the department with students and Lecturers. This year we 080 batch got the responsibility in organizing the event. As there was no one to compeer on that day, I was entrusted to do the job and I had no clue what was the order of the events that has to perform and there was none to give the compering as well, what to do. I welcomed them and ask few lecturers to talk on behalf of the others on the occasion, next in line should have been to show our respect by giving some beatle leafs (bulath athak). But I forgoted it, so I invited them to enjoy the sweets. People were anxious and somebody close by told me that I have skipped one tradition, what to do. I excused the gathering and corrected the mistake. so After lectures I said, "Final year nangila mallila  dan ahara anubwa karanna(enjoy food)". When I say this I was in level 2, 2 years behind the people I called younger brothers and sisters. Thank God, the seniors let me go without any penalties. ha ha ha , funny memories when I see this pictures. I recall all the crew ups I had during my stay in the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Moratuwa

Annual Gavel Trip 2010

This time it was decided to go to Kitulgala as the annual gavel trip. During the trip we also the visited the famous  cave "Beli Lena".It was excavated and researched between the years 1978-1983 by the Sri
Lankan archaeological department.Skeletal remains found here in the
levels dating back 16,000 years have been intensively analysed by an international team of
anthropologists as these remains are invaluable to help us understand the physical anthropology of
the Balangoda man. There have also been some bone tools along with evidence of fire having
been used from 30,000 years ago onwards.

We also went to a rest where we had our lunch and had a bath. After having some quality time with the friends of Gavel we came back.

Field Visit to Nikini Automation Systems 2010

Field Visit organized by IET Younger Member’s Section Moratuwa Chapter

Location    : Solar Power Plant Nikini Automation Systems Pvt. Ltd., Colombo 5

Date           : 21^st April 2010

Facilitator : Eng. Gayan Namantha (Engineer Research & Development at Nikini)

Participants: 25 undergrads & Dr.Chandima Dedduwa Pathirana ,Senior Lecturer from the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Moratuwa participated. 

        With the interest of the world moves towards renewable energy, IET Younger Member’s Section Moratuwa Chapter organized a field visit to increase the awareness of the renewable energy .The Solar Power plant which has been built and successfully maintained by Nikini was selected as they have already put it under operation. At Nikini we were told that it had been used as a pilot plan before they go for large scale development of a Solar Power Plant.

       We were warmly welcomed by Mr.Gayan Namantha who was also a graduate from University of Moratuwa and he explained how they have implemented and operate the power plant & the factors that has to be considered when going for solar power. 

       At Nikini they had implemented rain water harvesting which was operated parallel with the power plant. We were explained the rules and regulations related to Solar Power generation, distribution and when connecting to the main grid of CEB.

During the second part of the program a  Presentation on powering rural villages using solar powerwas shown. Participants were very enthusiastic about the presentation and it had really good respond.

 At the end of the presentation chapter member R.M.T.O.Rajapaksha (me) gave the vote of thanks. . A token of appreciation was handed over to the facilitator in appreciation of his contribution in educating young engineering minds, by Dr.C.D. Pathirana. Personals at Nikini thanked the organizers and IET for organizing such an event on a current topic.

Participated in the lecture Series done in North Central Province, Sri Lanka

Handz Lecture series for the Ordinary Level students in Adiyagala, North Central Province. It was a 2 day event where we went there did a seminar for the 2012 O/L facing students and then repaired a  school.  It was my first experience I got involving a Community service Project.Thats actually the one of the turning points I had during my stay in the University. I should remind Rtr.Kanchan & Rtr.Sajith Vimukthi whom without the Community Service Concept would not have one of my key interests.
